On 20.03.2024 the newly constructed planetarium to the Astronomical Observatory “Slavey Zlatev” in Kardzhali was open in the presence of the Mayor of Kardzhali Municipality, Erol Myumyun. Congratulations about the official opening were made by prof. Evgeni Semkov, Director of the Institute on Astronomy to the BAS, the District Governor Nikola Chanev, the Head of RAE – Kardzhali, Angelina Kostova, Ivaylo Yordanov, Executive Director of Kontrax – the contractor of the project.
The planetarium to the observatory is financed under the National Program “Support for the personal development of children and students”. It is a 7-meter dome with a unique for the country inflatable construction without affecting the building architecture. The project is carried out also with the additional financial aid from Kardzhali Municipality.
“I am very glad and happy that the Municipality contributed for this unique facility. The Observatory in Kardzhali is emblematic; it is one of the attractions of the city and now the town will become even more interesting for the citizens and guests”, said Erol Myumyun during the opening. He expressed his special gratitude to Nikola Chanev, about the good common work between the local authorities and the District Administration.
